I'm so excited for Dune later this year

I just had to show a crackpot customer to the door. He wanted to stand in the lobby and rant about how it's the end of days and all sinners should repent, and also that if there is a vaccine that becomes available, we should refuse it, because the government is going to put microchips in it to track us, and also that the testing is a hoax to develop a DNA database. Crazy thing is the guy works for the state Dept of Human Services, so if he's indicative of who they employ, my confidence in them has been greatly shaken.

I am too. I have been a fan of Lynch’s movie forever, and I finally read the book last year. The book blew my mind. I think it’s an absolute masterpiece, and anybody who reads it will understand why it’s just so damned hard to make it into a movie. Lynch tried to make it more than a Star Wars with worms clone, but the story is just so deep that it may be impossible to truly do it justice. I am cautiously optimistic, though it will be hard to see the characters played by different actors.

That's actually a good way to look at this.

I distinctly remember being called on in high school to fight a global war on terror. I think we invaded a few countries as apart of it. All we got out of it was a shit economy, though.

I’m so excited for Dune later this next year.
More likely.

I’m honestly more concerned about the number of people for whom “Wash your hands often=GOOD ” is somehow new information than COVID itself .

My wife commented that one good thing to come out of this might be a general improvement in hygiene.

Honestly, I’d prefer to see a GOT-style series (hopefully on Prime) than a movie, but I have a feeling they’re trying to set up a Marvel-like cinematic universe instead, which, eh . We’ll see.

There’s definitely a lot going on and I think Lynch’s movie is as faithful as it could be. I read up till God Emperor (the 4th book, I think?) w hen I was in highschool. It kinda lost me there, but I’ve heard the last 2 are fantastic as well.
I would actually recommend the 2000s SciFi miniseries if you haven't seen it before. Effects aren't great but it covers up to the third book.

There was mention of some sort of series on HBO that would coincide with the movie but I’m not sure if that got off the ground or not. It was going to focus on the Bene Geserit.

Probably right but I can hope. Haven’t been excited for a movie release in a long time. It's supposed to be in December so we'll see I guess.

I was just musing yesterday that it’s been over a week since I’ve seen someone not wash their hands after peeing.

See, that’d be the perfect thing for a series: 10,000 years of Sisterhood machinations, not a lot of CGI needed, costumes, location shots in Europe.

It was so weird reading the books after seeing the movie, there’s so much that’s iconic to my mind, but was invented by Lynch (the most obvious case being the Weirding Modules), and aren’t in the book that it was jarring the first time. After that 1st time though I went through the whole series, including the prequels, and loved them!

Yeah, the miniseries got a bad rap but it’s honestly way better than people give it credit for.

Well trump has already said what he thinks of NATO. Emmanuel Macron has said NATO is not fit for purpose and we need a European army (the U.K. and France already have a CJEF (Combined Joint Expeditionary Force) since 2010). So if he wants to go to war, he’s going to get a lot more resistance for support.
